Audi US plans to swipe sales from BMW with more RS cars

Audi US is planing to introduce a range of RS sports models in the country to ramp up overall international sales, and to overtake BMW by offering a product to compete with its M models - all of which are available in the US.

According to a recent Bloomberg report, Audi is aiming to chase down BMW sales in the US. It will introduce a range of RS models over the next year to help make that happen. The first of such models will be the Audi TT RS, which will go on sale next month, and then the Audi RS 5 next year to rival the BMW M3.

These sports versions, along with others, plan to help Audi double its performance car sales in the US to around 16,000 per year by 2015. Principal of 2953 Analytic consulting firm in Michigan, Jim Hall, said in the Bloomberg report,

“This is part of a very effective strategy on Audi’s part to get the brand perceived to be something more. Selling the RS 5 and the TT RS will continue that change of perception.”

Audi is a growing brand in the US, with the percentage of buyers interested in Audi products rising from 3.9 per cent in June of 2007, to 5.5 per cent in July this year. Last month, Audi sold 9146 cars in the US, a little under half of BMW's 21,409 figure.

Audi US currently only sells S-line variants, which offer sporty details and some increases in engine power on some models, but they aren't as seriously focused as the BMW M rivals. American buyers and enthusiasts have been asking for Audi RS products for years, and have now had their prayers answered.
