Ayrton Senna McLaren MP4/6 F1 Airfix sculpture up for auction
An artistic 'Airfix' display of Ayrton Senna's McLaren MP4/6 F1 car is going up for auction. The model is made from actual pieces of Senna's car, and includes fine details including the traditional red and white livery.
The model is one of Senna's final World Championship cars, which makes it just that little bit more special. The car was dismantled back in 1992 by McLaren and some pieces were stored or sold off, while some of the pieces were given to artist Jay Burridge who converted them into a large Airfix-style snap-release model kit.
Each segment is pieced together like a giant makeshift Airfix kit, joined together with small pipes like a scale model. If you're an avid F1 fan, it'd be the perfect thing to hang up in your garage or den. And, if you're keen enough, you may be able to do just that.
The large sculpture is going up for auction at the International Car auctioneers COYS on August 13 at an event at the Nurburgring in Germany. So, if you're in the area around that time, and have several thousand dollars just waiting to be spent, tag along and put in a bid.
It's expected to attract plenty of attention at the event. Chris Routledge from COYS recently said,
"It really is a fantastic sculpture that would not be out of place in a design or motor museum or on the wall of a corporate office. We believe that it will sell for between £30,000 and £50,000 [AU$45,900-$76,530]."
