Mercedes-Benz Black Falcon SLS AMG GT3 gets ready for Spa 24hr

Mercedes-Benz is getting ready for the Spa 24-hour endurance race this weekend. The new Mercedes-Benz Black Falcon SLS AMG GT3 race car will be driven by Kenneth Heyer, the son of Hans Heyer, who drove for Mercedes-Benz in 1971 during the same event in a Mercedes-Benz 300 SEL 6.8 AMG.

The Mercedes-Benz Black Falcon SLS AMG GT3 race car will be wearing the same number '35' as the classic driven at the Spa-Francorchamps 24hr event held 40 years ago, as well as the same shade of red paintwork.

The younger Heyer will be challenging another six SLS AMG GT3 cars during the race, which is now held on a shortened version of the famous Spa circuit - reduce from 14.8km down to 7.0km in 1978.

Hans Heyer recently said,

"Forty years after our class victory and second overall place, I think it is a great idea to enter the Spa-Francorchamps race with the SLS AMG GT3 in the same look as 'my' 300 SEL 6.8 AMG. Naturally I wish the Black Falcon team and my son Kenneth every success - and will be delighted if he wins at least second place!"

Kenneth also spoke about what the race meant to him:

"It's a great honour, exactly 40 years after my father's success, for me to be bringing the Black Falcon SLS AMG GT3 to the starting line of the 24-hour race in Spa-Francorchamps. Together with my team colleagues, I will be trying to achieve at least second place."

The prestigious race event will kick off on July 30 at the Spa circuit in Belgium.
