2012 Hyundai Accent pricing and specifications for Australia

Australian pricing and specifications for the 2012 Hyundai Accent have been released, revealing a range that offers sharp styling, plenty of features and a competitive price.

The all-new Accent is available in four-door sedan and five-door hatch body styles, and comes with the choice of either a four-speed automatic or five-speed manual transmission.

Three models are available: the entry-level Active, the mid-spec Elite and the range-topping Premium.

All models are powered by a 1.6-litre petrol engine with 91kW of power and 156Nm of torque – the same engine found in the Hyundai i20 Elite and Premium models.

Automatic Accent models consume fuel at a rate of 6.4 litres/100km, while the manual models use just 6.0 litres/100km – identical figures to the smaller and less powerful 1.4-litre variants of the Hyundai i20.

The Accent is 1700mm wide, 1450mm tall and has a wheelbase of 2570mm. The hatch is 4115mm long and the sedan is 255mm larger at 4370mm. The hatch has a 370-litre boot while the sedan’s is an even more accommodating 465 litres.

Compared with the i20, the Accent is 10mm skinnier and 40mm lower. The Accent hatch is 175mm longer than the i20, has a 45mm longer wheelbase and has a boot with 75 litres of additional storage space.

The Active model is fitted with 14-inch steel wheels and a four-speaker audio system with CD player, AUX/USB inputs and Bluetooth for music and mobile phone connectivity.

All models come standard with six airbags (dual front, side and curtains), electronic stability control and seatbelt reminders for all occupants.

For an extra $1500, the Elite gets 16-inch alloy wheels, front fog lights, four-speaker stereo with two front tweeters, chrome boot inserts, piano black interior finish, premium steering wheel and gear knob, rear storage net and a centre floor console with cup holder.

Spending an extra $2500 for the Premium gets you an electro-chromatic rear view mirror, reverse parking sensors and reversing camera, push-button start with smart key (auto models only), automatic climate control and ‘leatherette’ seats.

The comprehensive package means the new Accent will prove strong competition for the leaders in the light segment like the Volkswagen Polo, Mazda2, Ford Fiesta and Suzuki Swift.

CarAdvice is attending the launch of the all-new Hyundai Accent on August 8. Stay tuned for a full drive test review.
