Jaguar E-Type 50th anniversary at Silverstone

More than 1000 Jaguar E-Types have assembled at Silverstone as car lovers continue to celebrate the 50th anniversary of one of the world’s most famous automobiles.

The Silverstone Classic weekend marked the official celebration for the leading Jaguar clubs. It tied in perfectly with the E-Type story, as the first customer car was delivered exactly 50 years earlier in July 1961.

More than 800 E-Types took part in a parade of the 5.8km grand prix circuit, and around 200 other models were on site for the event.

The Silverstone Classic is one of the world’s largest classic motor racing festivals and is run over three days during the English summer.

Event director, Nick Wigley, said thousands of other Jaguar vehicles rolled in to Silverstone, including C-Types, D-Types, XK120s, XK140s, XK150s and modern performance cars like the XKR.

“This weekend has been a fantastic celebration of the E-type,” Mr Wigley said.

“Cars from all over the world have come to Silverstone to make the Silverstone Classic the biggest and best anniversary event for the E-type.”

CarAdvice has embraced the 50th anniversary celebrations this year, with Anthony Crawford experiencing the E-Type in New York and Alborz Fallah jumping behind the wheel in England.
