Official details of the new GS are still under tight wraps, however, according to Motor Trend in the US - who also got an exclusive test drive of an early prototype - the new GS to be unveiled at the event will feature a 3.5-litre V6 petrol engine sending power through a six-speed automatic transmission, almost certainly to the rear wheels.
The new GS is said to debut in Europe at the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show in September with the full production trim levels on display, including a hybrid variant. A GS F sports version is said to be in the pipeline also, showcasing a similar powertrain setup as the current Lexus IS F, including a 5.0-litre naturally aspirated V8.
Lexus has said the new GS will showcase a "more defined and emotional design" compared with the previous generation, and if the concept version is anything to go by, then these measures will surely be met. Our previous GS spy shots proved the production version could potentially showcase the LF-Gh Concept styling quite accurately.
Inside, the new GS will feature a huge 12.3-inch central display screen which will be tied up with all of the interior controls and entertainment settings. The platform will also include a hand-driven mouse-type browser like the top spec Lexus CT 200h.
Look out for our full coverage of the Concours d'Elegance event which starts on August 18. We'll also provide more concrete details of the new Lexus GS as soon as possible.
