Ssangyong – A car company that’s worth watching

The SsangYong Motor Company of Korea is now a car company that is well worth watching, after Indian Engineering giant Mahindra & Mahindra bought a 70 percent stake in the carmaker.

The UK distributor of the brand, a newly formed company called SsangYong Motor UK is pushing ahead with the launch of the Korando SUV, which the newest vehicle in the SsangYong range.

That’s a long way behind where Australia is with the brand under SsangYong Motor Australia, who launched the highly competitive Korando in February 2011.

SsangYong in the UK is not only gearing up for deliveries of the brand’s first entry into the increasingly popular crossover segment but will also be releasing the 2012 spec Rexton 2 and Rodius models.

Dealers in the UK will be expanded from the current number fifty to sixty-five, which should mean sales of the Korando in particular should be brisk, given its high-value proposition in the market.

SsangYong have some exciting new products on the way too with our favourite being the Sports Utility pick up concept, the SUT1 and range extensions to the Korando, which will be revealed at this year’s Frankfurt Motor Show in September.
