Saab 9-6 concept revealed at Trollhättan Saab museum
Saab had plans in 2005 to release a Saab 9-6 SUV based on the Subaru Tribeca. Production of the vehicle had to be shelved due to General Motors selling its 20 per cent stakes in Fuji Heavy Industries (Subaru) in 2005. A concept version of that Saab 9-6 has just been revealed at Saab's museum Trollhättan.
This is the first time we've be able to get a glimpse of the Subaru-based 9-6. Although this is not what the upcoming production version of the 9-6 will look like, it might give some clues as to the size and style of the car.
A few weeks ago we reported that Saab had announced it was planning to introduce three new models: Saab 9-1, 9-6 and 9-7. According to Saab, the 9-6 will be targeted at the luxury end of the SUV market, much like this concept would have been if it made it to production.
Mr Pang Qingnian, CEO of Zhejiang Youngman Lotus Automobile (part owner of Saab), said in our previous report that the Saab 9-6, along with the upcoming Saab 9-7, would be "key to enhancing the prestige of the Saab brand", particularly in Chinese and US markets.
At this stage it is unknown if Saab will attach the 'X' to the end of the name of the production version like the recently released Saab 9-4X. It will feature an all-wheel drive drivetrain, so this might be the case. We'll keep you updated.
