1961 Ferrari California AUD$11million auction record

An original 1961 Ferrari California Spyder has broken the world record for the highest price paid for a vintage car at auction.

The immaculate black 1961 Ferrari 250 GT SWB California Spyder sold for an astounding AUD$11,351,924.51 just days after Ferrari revealed its latest version.

The winning bid was placed by Ferrari enthusiast and British television and radio personality Chris Evans, along with his wife, golf pro and writer Natasha Shishmanian, at the RM Ferrari Auction held in Maranello, Italy.

This beats the previous record of AUD$11,214,443.87 paid for a 1962 Ferrari 250 GTO at a Sotheby’s Monaco auction in 1990.

This latest addition to their prestigious collection will now pride of place as the most valuable car sold in auction history.
