NZ man sets own car on fire after it broke down

A 20-year-old New Zealand man is facing charges of wasting police time and making a false statement, and may have to cover the costs of a fire department call-out, after setting fire to his own car in anger after it broke down.

It can't really be considered road rage unless it's against another motorist, can it? Either way, this angry driver was apparently upset after his Nissan Bluebird broke down. So much so that he jumped on the roof repeatedly and smashed various windows.

Reports say the man went to the pub for a drink, to drown his sorrows we suppose, only to return to the car at around 1:45am while drunk to set it on fire. He then called the police and said his car had been set alight by an unknown person. It gets funnier.

The man later confessed to torching his own car. Police Constable Peter Reed said in a recent report that the man "was in a world of mess", saying that "the reason he did it was because his car was a heap, it broke down and he got frustrated".

The man will face charges in court next week.
