2007 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited

The Jeep Wrangler has become a cult car, yes, I am willing to admit it even though I am not all that fond of the Jeeps or other compact SUVs. Launched in Australia in late 1996, the wrangler hasn't exactly changed much (one of the true signs for becoming a cult car). Infact the 1996 model and the 2006 model still look alike.

However come next year, Jeep Australia is set to bring about a new generation of wranglers to Australia with even an option for a Diesel engine! I thought the best way to describe the difference between the Jeep Wrangler and the new model, the Jeep Wrangler unlimited, would be using pictures:

Yep, as with everything American, the Jeep is getting fatter, with more cargo room for more practicality, the new Jeep Wrangler Unlimited is making its way to Australia next year.

“Jeep is not only launching an all-new two and four-door Unlimited version of the iconic Wrangler in 2007, we are taking more than 65 years of legendary 4x4 leadership to a growing area of the market with two new compact four-wheel drives,” said Gerry Jenkins, managing director, Chrysler Group Australia.

The all-new Jeep Wrangler and Jeep Wrangler Unlimited will be the first to arrive in March 2007. Jeep says that the new model is the best Wrangler ever, and I always find it amusing when companies call a new version of their product as the best ever, because seriously, of course its the best ever, its the newest! Its bound to be better! If its not, they shouldn't be selling it!

The all-new Jeep Wrangler Unlimited, features a one-of-a-kind, four-door open-air design. The new model will further expand the Jeep lineup and give those who always found the wrangler a little cramped some choice. With room for five adult passengers (a Wrangler first) and the most cargo space ever offered in a Wrangler, the unlimited version is sure to attract new buyers to the brand.

“Wrangler Unlimited expands the Jeep experience and core values to go anywhere and do anything, now with more family and friends and more gear,” said Jenkins.

Jeep Wrangler Unlimited features a 2947mm wheelbase, achieved by adding 523mm to the standard all-new Wrangler’s 2424mm wheelbase. This allows for a larger rear seat that features three seating positions, as well as more hip room, legroom, shoulder room and cargo space.

However perhaps the best thing about the new wrangler, as mentioned before, is the 2.8-litre common-rail turbo diesel engine which will be offered. Its good to see Chrysler bringing the diesel variant to Australia! The 2.8L diesel engine will be offered alongside the 3.8-litre V6 petrol engine which will replace the current 4.0L engine.

No power figures are currently available for either engines.
