McLaren MP4-12C orders spill into 2013

McLaren has announced that orders for the all-new McLaren MP4-12C supercar have exceeded this year's production capacity, overflowing into the company's schedule for the next three years. Apparently the Trivett Group who represents McLaren in Australia has already sold 26 MP4-12C's.

McLaren isn't about to expand its capacity though, it wants to ensure the MP4-12C remains more exclusive than the competition - the Ferrari 458 and the Lamborghini Gallardo. This will help the model retain resale value and dealers will be able to able to enjoy larger margins, according to Ian Gorsuch, regional director of McLaren Automotive. He said in a recent report,

"The key is making the dealership profitable. We will produce less cars but the dealers must have more cars than the competition because the long-term goal is profitability."

The focus will also be on investing back into the brand, Mr Gorsuch added,

"That is why we want to make the showroom cheaper to build. We would rather have them invest in stocking more parts."

So far, McLaren plans to open up 35 showrooms throughout 19 different countries in the near future. One important country for McLaren is China, where three showrooms are scheduled to open up in 2013. McLaren sees the world's fastest-growing and biggest overall market as an important step in its growth.

McLaren is currently planning to build around 1000 cars next year, but says that figure might expand somewhat depending on the circumstances. The first example is likely to be delivered towards the end of this year, with the other first-order customers taking delivery throughout 2012.
