2008-2009 Mazda3 recalled in Australia – 38,944 cars affected

Mazda Australia is recalling almost 40,000 previous-generation Mazda3 vehicles due to an electrical defect in the windscreen wipers.

A total of 38,944 BK Series II Mazda3 vehicles built between January 2008 and March 2009 will be recalled in Australia after the fault was detected in overseas vehicles.

About 494,500 Mazda3 (Axela in Japan) vehicles will be recalled globally to repair the front windscreen wiper motor defect, which can cause the wipers to stop working.

Mazda Australia’s Steve Maciver said a small number of Mazda3 owners in Australia had reported a similar problem that is likely to be linked to the impending recall, although no accidents have occurred as a result.

Mr Maciver insisted that the recall applied to previous-generation Mazda3 models only, not the current-generation BL Mazda3.

He said Mazda Australia in the process of sourcing parts from overseas in preparation for the recall. He said affected customers would be notified shortly about scheduling the repair.

All recalled vehicles will have a new ground wire fitted to the wiper motor in a repair that should take less than one hour.

Mr Maciver encouraged drivers whose wipers were functioning normally to wait to be contacted by Mazda Australia to arrange the recall repair.

Any owners with vehicles in the affected range who experience issues with their wipers should contact their local dealer directly for an inspection.
