2012 Peugeot 208 spy shots

Peugeot has been spotted once again testing the all-new Peugeot 208 out in the public. The Peugeot 208 will replace the 207 in the near future.

It is very difficult to tell what the new mode will look like exactly, especially judging from this test mule, which almost looks like a tent on wheels. Underneath, the front end is expected to present Peugeot's traditional chrome-trimmed front grille with an upside-down trapezoidal lower opening. However, the new model is said to do away with the large open-face look.

Power for the new model is expected to come from a range of petrol and diesel engine options, including a small three-cylinder petrol for the entry-level variant. A range-topping 208 GTI is likely to join the line-up using a variation of the PSA MINI Cooper S turbocharged 1.6-litre petrol, producing around 140-150kW of power.

A range of fuel economy-minded technologies are also expected to come out with the new 208 model, including the use of lightweight materials in its construction to help bring the overall weight of the car down, as well as stop/start technology for city and urban driving conditions.

Like the current Peugeot 207, the Peugeot 208 will become available in three and five-door guise, as well as a wagon later on down the track. A CC convertible may also continue in the line-up.

It's unknown when the 208 will be officially unveiled, but reports suggest the new model will go on sale in late-2012 or early-2013. We'll keep you updated in any case.
