Audi R8 GT Spyder coming to Australia

Audi has unveiled its R8 GT Spyder, and prepare to get excited about it - five will be heading to Australia.

With the R8 GT coupe sold out, the Spyder was a natural extension for Audi, and it's cooked up this convertible in the same vein - more power, less weight.

It still uses the same engine as the R8 GT coupe - a 5.2-litre FSI V10 producing 412 kW and 540 Nm - but compared with the regular (if you can call it that) R8 V10 Spyder, it weighs 85kg less.

Magnesium, aluminium and carbon-fibre reinforced polymer (CFRP) all feature, as well as interior weight-saving measures. It all adds up to give the R8 GT Spyder a 0 to 100 km/h time of just 3.8 seconds. Top speed is a wind-in-your-toupee-warning 317 km/h.

Like the R8 GT coupe, the GT Spyder will be only be produced as a run of 333 units. Cost? Well, in Germany at least, it'll begin at €207,800. Aussie pricing will be announced later in the year, closer to its launch.
