Audi A1 clubsport quattro unveiled

The Audi A1 clubsport quattro concept show car has been unveiled at the annual Wörtherseetour meet with power and performance to rival some of the world’s great sports cars.

The A1 clubsport quattro is powered by a modified version of the 2.5-litre TFSI petrol engine used in the Audi RS 3 Sportback.

The turbocharger, intercooler, induction tract and exhaust line have been retuned for even higher performance.

In the A1 clubsport, it produces a whopping 370kW of power and a staggering 660Nm of torque. That’s more power and torque than the Aston Martin DB9, Ferrari California and the Porsche 911 Turbo.

Acceleration from 0-100km/h takes just 3.7 seconds and 0-200km/h comes up in 10.9 seconds. Accelerating from 80km/h to 112km/h takes 2.4 seconds. Its top speed is electronically limited to 250km/h.

The six-speed manual transmission and quattro all-wheel drive are borrowed from the TT RS, while the 19-inch alloy wheels and 255/30 low-profile tyres are unique to the A1 clubsport. Sitting within are large perforated carbon fibre ceramic discs with six-piston calipers at the front, and steel discs at the rear.

The overall vehicle weight is 1390kg – 215kg heavier than the standard A1 with a 90kW/200Nm 1.4-litre engine.

The body makes extensive use of carbon fibre and is finished in white matte paint with high-gloss black contrasting features. The side panels incorporate chrome tipped exhaust pipes while the rear is dominated by a large roof spoiler, dark rear lights and deep diffuser.

The front seats are pulled straight from the Audi R8 GT and incorporate red four-point belts, while the rear seats have been replaced by a crossbar for added body stiffness.

Leather, aluminium and stainless steel finishes are used throughout the bespoke cabin, and the door handles have been replaced by red loops to save weight.

The Audi A1 clubsport quattro is a show car only, and Audi has no plans of putting it into production.

Those keen to experience it however, can do so in Need for Speed World, where it will be available to all players as a free in-game rental car from June 1-4.
