Volkswagen Golf R advertisement you can eat

The Volkswagen Golf R eats the road, and thanks to the German manufacturer’s latest advertisement for the hot hatch in South Africa, you can eat the road too.

Well known for its unique and imaginative ads, Volkswagen has placed an edible commercial in the current edition of Auto Trader magazine for the 2011 Volkswagen Golf R.

Pictured above, the ad simply suggests: “Eat the road. Seriously, eat it.”

It looks just like any other page, although the ingredients listed on the side reveal the page is made from glutinous rice flour, water, salt, propylene glycol, FD&C colour and glycerine.

We’d suggest eating a diet consisting of only Volkswagen ads may not be an entirely clever health decision, however.

In high doses, the additive ‘propylene glycol’ has been linked to side effects including kidney problems, throat irritation, headaches and vomiting.

Propylene glycol is also commonly found in make-up, shampoo and skin creams, as well as stain removers, paint and wallpaper stripper.

That said, nibbling the corner off an A4 page won’t have any adverse effects, besides embarrassment as the entire waiting room stares at you chowing down on a magazine, and potentially a papery aftertaste in your mouth.
