Mazda3 production hits 3 million units
Mazda has announced Mazda3 international production has just hit three million units in the time the model has been on sale, since June 2003.
The Mazda3 is one of Australia's most popular hatchbacks and, according to official sales figures from VFACTS, it has been in the country's top three highest-selling vehicle lists for months. Mazda also says it is the fastest-selling model in the company's showroom, hitting three million in just seven years.
Mazda produces the car in three different countries, including the company's Hofu Plant in Yamaguchi, Japan, the Changan Ford/Mazda Automobile (CFMA) plant in Nanjing, China, and AutoAlliance in Thailand. Australian-sold models are produced at the Hofu Plant in Japan. The three-millionth version was also built in Japanese plant.
Senior managing executive officer of research and development at Mazda, Hirotaka Kanazawa, recently spoke about the milestone in a recent report. He said,
"The Mazda3 embodies all three elements of Mazda’s DNA: Distinctive Design, Exceptional Functionality, and Responsive Handling and Driving Performance. Its sustained global success has seen it grow into Mazda’s mainstay model, and it now comprises a third of all Mazda vehicle sales.
"As we celebrate reaching three million units, I would like to thank the millions of Mazda3 customers for their support and reaffirm Mazda’s commitment to delivering outstanding environmental and safety performance balanced with driving pleasure that goes beyond your expectations."
