Rolls-Royce Ghost Extended Wheelbase to hit Australian shores in 2012

Rolls-Royce quietly released its Ghost Extended Wheelbase at the Shanghai Auto Show a couple of weeks ago, making it the sixth new Rolls-Royce model in the lineup.

As a built-to-order car, the Ghost Extended Wheelbase will go into full production next year and will hit Australian shores in the first quarter of 2012.

An extra 170mm of wheelbase has been added to extend the Ghost's already generous legroom. Knee-room is said to have been doubled over the standard Ghost.

Under the bonnet remains the ultra-smooth 6.6-litre twin-turbo petrol V12 and using its eight-speed automatic, the Rolls-Royce Ghost Extended Wheelbase will go from 0-100km/h in just five seconds.

Options include having Black stained Ash wood with stainless steel pinstripes, contrast stitching, a coolbox including champagne flutes, rear privacy telephone and Rolls-Royce logos to headrests.

Rolls Royce CEO Torsten Müller-Ötvös was obviously proud of how the new car fits in to the existing model range.

“This latest Rolls-Royce is a model of outstanding design and unrivalled luxury," he said. "Ghost Extended Wheelbase delivers all the poise and dynamism enjoyed by discerning Ghost owners, with the indulgent experience of an extended wheelbase car. It is the very best of both worlds.

“This is the first time we have undertaken a world launch of a Rolls-Royce car in China, underscoring the strategic significance of this market and the Asia Pacific region. We expect to build on last year’s record growth, with further strong demand for Rolls-Royce models and a positive economic forecast throughout the region,” he added.

Pricing for Australia hasn't been confirmed as yet, but expect it to be around $750,000 when it arrives next year.
