McLaren ‘Mega Mac’ hypercar coming in 2014

McLaren is working on an all-new hypercar for 2014 that will be “bigger” and “angrier” than the current McLaren MP4-12C.

According to UK publication Autocar, the new halo car is known within the walls of British company’s Woking, Surrey headquarters as the ‘Mega Mac’.

Powering the Mega Mac is said to be a 5.0-litre V8 with 596kW of power and 800Nm of torque. The engine will be developed in collaboration with Ricardo while the transmission will be a seven-speed dual-clutch Graziano unit.

McLaren insiders say acceleration from 0-100km/h will take 2.8 seconds, which will make it around three-tenths slower than the 736kW Bugatti Veyron, but it promises to be two seconds quicker than the Veyron from 0-200mph (0-322km/h).

McLaren is set to produce just 500 Mega Macs with prices expected to fall between £350,000 and £400,000 ($535,000 and $611,000).

The styling will take cues from the current MP4-12C and the past legend, the McLaren F1.

Under the body, the carbon fibre monocell will be similar to the MP4-12C and will feature a heavily revised hydraulic anti-roll setup, active dampers, aluminium suspension, five-stage traction control and Brembo carbon-ceramic brakes.

The Mega Mac may also come with an ABS system that can be disabled for the track (and automatically reactivated by the sat-nav when back on the road) and an on-board video camera and data logging system to capture the driver’s finest racing moments.

The Mega Mac will be built on it own unique production line separate from the MP4-12C over three to four years, beginning in 2014.
