Chitty Chitty Bang Bang leads movie star car auctions

A full cast of Hollywood movie star cars will go under the hammer over the coming weeks.

Expected to attract the highest bids is the one of the original Chitty Chitty Bang Bang cars, which has been tipped to fetch more than $1 million.

The Chitty up for auction was one of seven built for the film, and this particular vehicle was used in most of the driving scenes in the 1968 Disney classic.

The Roadster, complete with polished aluminium bonnet and wings, is powered by a 3.0-litre V6 engine and is in roadworthy condition.

According to the Los Angeles Times, the vehicle has had just one owner, British stunt driver and actor Pierre Picton, since promotion of the film ended more than 40 years ago.

The auction will be held in Beverly Hills on Sunday.

If Chitty’s a little out of your price range, the people at Volo Auto Museum may be able to help you.

Volo is auctioning 20 cars from the big and little screen online between June 8 and 15.

Included in the auction is the Scooby Doo Mystery Machine from Hanna Barbera Studios, General Lee from Dukes of Hazzard, the Slaughter Truck from Batman: Dark Knight and Herbie the Beetle from Herbie Fully Loaded.

Also up for grabs are four cars from Fast & Furious 4, two military trucks from Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull and the beat-up jalopy from the 1993 film version of The Beverly Hillbillies.

These auctions got us thinking: If there was one movie star car you could own, which one would it be? Let us know in the comments below.
