Iranian manufacturer, Iran-Khodro Company (IKCO), has announced it is planning to produce 10 all-new cars by 2018. The company will launch its first ever car, called the Dena, next April after completing a prototype version next March.

Managing Director of IKCO, Javad Najmeddin, said the company would focusing on bringing out 10 cars in the C and D segments specifically, which will share two all-new platforms. This will help the company adhere to Iran's automotive council policy which says domestic car makers must produce three cars per platform by 2016.

Mr Najmeddin said the main focus of the company was to bring out new products incorporating original automotive design, research and development.

"At least three percent of IKCO's overall sales should be allocated to research and development."

The Dena will be the company's first production car. It has been designed, and will be manufactured, solely by IKCO. IKCO takes pride in the fact that it has made the Dena with no outside help from either international suppliers or foreign-sourced designers.

IKCO will also market Suzuki vehicles in the coming years, particularly a new sedan. The Japanese company experienced recent success in Iran thanks to Suzuki Grand Vitara sales. The partnership between IKCO and Suzuki will help IKCO market its products more effectively thanks to Suzuki's large brand recognition.
