Volvo Cars UK updates V70 R-Design, S80 Executive, no changes for Australia

Volvo Cars UK has introduced the V70 R-Design and S80 Executive variants to sit at the top of both model lines, but the updates will not affect Volvo Car Australia’s range.

The sporty Volvo V70 R-Design is an updated version for the new model year, and features a revised front design, door mirror LED indicators, 18-inch Ixion alloy wheels, off-black leather upholstery and black floor mats. Australia's V70 range will benefit from the same stylistic updates towards the end of the year.

UK customers have considerably more powertrain options, with six turbocharged engines (three diesel, three petrol) are available across the V70 range. The R-Design treatment can be applied to all of them.

The diesel options include the 84kW/270Nm 1.6-litre four-cylinder DRIVe, 120kW/400Nm 2.0-litre five-cylinder D3 and the 158kW/420Nm 2.4-litre five-cylinder D5.

Combined cycle fuel consumption ranges from 4.5 to 6.0 litres/100km, although the D3 is the only diesel engine offered with the six-speed Geartronic automatic transmission (the others have a six-speed manual).

The petrol options include the 132kW/240Nm 1.6-litre four-cylinder T4, 177kW/320Nm 2.0-litre four-cylinder T5 and the 224kW/440Nm six-cylinder T6.

The T6 is the only engine available in Australia, and combined with all-wheel drive and the six-speed Geartronic gearbox, it is capable of accelerating from 0-100km/h in 7.2 seconds and uses 10.2 litres/100km on the combined cycle.

The T4 and T5 engines are teamed with front-wheel drive and either the six-speed manual or six-speed Powershift dual-clutch automatic transmission. Acceleration times range from 7.7 to 9.9 seconds, while average fuel consumption is between 9.2 to 11.3 litres/100km.

Volvo Car Australia’s Jaedene Hudson said there would be no changes to the local V70 line-up this late in the vehicle’s lifecycle, with the T6 to remain the only engine option. Ms Hudson did not have any information on when to expect a new V70, but said it was still some way off.

The Volvo S80 Executive sedan gets a number of exclusive interior enhancements, including a leather instrument panel cover, ventilated soft leather seats with massage function, leather door panels, analogue clock and aluminium centre storage console.

Also included are extra thick floor carpets and rear seat fridge option, which comes with a set of Swedish crystal glasses.

Ms Hudson said there were no plans to introduce the high-end Executive model to the local line-up.

Both the Volvo V70 and S80 models are available in Australia in standard T60 AWD and T6 R-Design AWD versions.

2011 Volvo V70/S80 manufacturer’s list prices:

  • V70 T6 AWD – $69,950
  • V70 T6 R-Design AWD – $74,150
  • S80 T6 AWD – $79,950
