2011 Porsche Panamera Diesel announced

Porsche has just announced details of the all-new Porsche Panamera Diesel. The new variant showcases highly fuel-efficient consumption and emission figures, and is capable of travelling 1200km on a single tank of fuel.

Using Volkswagen's 3.0-litre turbo diesel V6 engine (seen in the Volkswagen Touareg), Porsche fitted variable-geometry turbochargers (VGT) to the unit to improve power and response. The engine produces 184kW of power from 3,800rpm to 4,400rpm, and 550Nm of torque from 1250rpm to 2750rpm (176kW/550Nm in Volkswagen form).

Fitted with Porsche's Tiptronic S eight-speed automatic transmission, accelerating from 0-100km/h can be achieved in 6.8 seconds. Sportiness typical of Porsche is retained as the Panamera Diesel is only available in rear-wheel drive form and is fitted with the Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM) system.

The main reason for the diesel introduction is of course for the fuel saving benefits. Porsche says the new car offers an average fuel consumption rating of just 5.4L/100km. The package also emits 172 grams of CO2 per kilometre (167 grams with optional low rolling resistance tyres).

The 2011 Porsche Panamera Diesel is available to order now, with deliveries said to begin in September later this year. Prices start at $194,900.
