Lexus Australia Hits 40,000 Sales

Its obvious more than ever that Toyota's Luxury brand Lexus has achieved what all other luxury Japanese brands have failed todo, sell cars! Mazda tried their Eunos brand and other Japanese manufacturers have all tried their luck but Toyota's experience and quality cars have made them a viable purchase for those after European quality and luxury. So today Lexus Australia has achieved a significant milestone by passing the 40,000-vehicle sale mark.

It reached 40,223 sales at the end of October after a record month during which it sold 916 vehicles. Lexus came to Australia in 1990 - despite actually being a brand designed solely for the US market (LEXUS = Luxury EXport United States). Lexus has been able to maintain a rapid and consistent rise in sales.

Currently Lexus offers six models with 12 variants, including the recently launched RX400h, Australia's first luxury hybrid SUV. Lexus is on track to deliver over 6700 vehicles for the year by the end of December - up on 2005 by around 10 per cent. At the end of October total RX sales were close to 8900, an even more outstanding result given that it has been achieved in only three years since the model's launch in 2003.

IS250 is the star performer year to date, with 2893 vehicles sold Australia-wide. The 40,000 benchmark is an important milestone in the history of Lexus.

"To reach 40,000 sales in such a relatively short period of time is an incredible result for Lexus. The emergence of Lexus caused a major shake-up in the luxury car market, and it's no idle boast to suggest that this has led to a better deal for all luxury car customers.

Although we are currently number three in the luxury market, we have a strong plan to continue the rise into 2007, particularly with the growth of our highly successful hybrid range and the arrival of our new flagship LS.

This benchmark is by no means a reason to rest on our laurels: we look forward to celebrating the 50,000 milestone in the not-too-distant future." said Lexus Australia divisional manager Scott Grant.

Congratulations to Lexus! Its good to see that the Japanese brand has come such a long way from being just another Toyota to a recognizable and prestiges brand.
