Lexus LF-Gh unveiled in New York

Lexus has unveiled the all-new Lexus LF-Gh concept at the New York International Auto Show. The model was created by Lexus Design Division from the ground up, and gives the world a preview of the design direction of next generation of Lexus vehicles.

Lexus Design Division general manager, Kengo Matsumoto, admitted his team pushed the boundaries when it came to the styling of the LF-Gh concept.

"For this concept, Lexus designers studied characteristics that are often considered contradictory and difficult to execute together. The captivating design of the LF-Gh concept examines the possibility of balancing what are normally opposing qualities, such as style and functionality.”

The most striking feature of the LF-Gh is the aggressive hourglass front grille, which Lexus calls the ‘spindle’.

Last week, Lexus said the spindle was a “key feature that will be inherited by future Lexus models”. As well as projecting a resolute look, the spindle grille contributes to efficient aerodynamics and effective radiator and brake duct operation.

It's sure to be one of the most polarising design features of the concept, and Lexus Division group vice president and general manager, Mark Templin, said customers and show-goers would help the brand make a final decision on the new family face.

"Customers have been waiting for a bold concept like this from Lexus,” Mr Templin said.

“We look forward to their feedback and integrating some of these exciting design features into future Lexus vehicles.”

Built on a rear-wheel drive platform, the grand tourer is expected to form the basis of the next-generation GS hybrid. Lexus did not release powertrain details at New York, but it insists future models will have greatly reduce tailpipe emissions.
