Ferrari 599 replacement to get at least 520kW
The vehicle that replaces the Ferrari 599 supercar will feature an engine offering at least 520kW of power, according to a report by UK publication Autocar. Creating the power will be the Enzo-derived 6.3-litre V12 with direct-injection.
A Ferrari insider revealed that the next Ferrari 599 will be the most powerful and fastest road car Ferrari has ever built, even surpassing the current top model, the Ferrari 599 GTO, by more than 20kW. The insider said,
"If you look at where we went from the F430 to the 458, and from the 612 Scaglietti to the FF, it is not hard to see where we want the next 599 to be. We are not looking for a small step."
The next 599 is said to use a revised version of the 6.3-litre V12, also seen in the new Ferrari FF, which was derived from the original 6.0-litre 599, 612 and Ferrari Enzo Tipo F140C V12 engines.
The new car will be built using a new lightweight construction comprising aluminium and will feature an alloy monocoque body - a method that was applied to the Ferrari FF, which is only 65kg heavier than the rear-wheel drive Ferrari 612 Scaglietti (1725kg).
Although carbon fibre is the hottest fashion these days, mainly due to its extremely lightweight, high-strength properties, Ferrari isn't planning on developing the next 599 using carbon. The company says that it is a material not yet suited to larger production volumes of a car like the 599.
Reports have also revealed the new model won't be receiving the all-wheel drive system from the Ferrari FF as some predicted, as the company wants to keep that set-up for its upcoming range of grand touring models - a category Ferrari says the 599 does not fall into.
