MINI RAY launched in Australia for under $26,000

In a new move toward affordability for the MINI brand, a new MINI RAY variant has been launched, retailing for $25,500 plus on road costs.

Initially, only 300 of the MINI RAYs will be available, and will come with a 1.6-litre naturally aspirated four cylinder petrol engine, making 72kW and 153Nm. It's offered with a six-speed manual only.

Its ADR fuel figure is just 5.4 litres/100km, meaning it can travel 700kms on a single tank, while its 0-100km/h time is 10.5 seconds, and it comes with a five star ANCAP safety rating, featuring six airbags and ESC as standard.

As you'll have noticed from the pictures, the RAY has distinctive mirror caps and other highlights in six specific colours, including Alien Green (as pictured), Lemon Yellow, Flash White, Energy Pink, Vitamin Orange and Shocking Blue, plus hub caps (no, they're not alloys) specific to the RAY.

A six-speaker sound system with MP3 capability and typical MINI interior styling rounds out the features, and it's available in two solid colours (Pepper White and Chilli Red) with three metallic colours available at extra cost (Midnight Black, British Racing Green and Velvet Silver).

“Based on the MINI ONE we anticipate strong interest in the MINI RAY which has already proven highly-popular in Europe”, said David Woollcott, MINI Australia National Manager.

“There are many MINI-lovers who, until now, may have felt MINI was out of their price range. The MINI RAY appeals to both the heart and the head, with only 300 cars available initially, the privilege will be limited to just a lucky few,” he said.
