2012 Audi Q3 to debut at Auto Shanghai 2011

The 2012 Audi Q3 compact crossover will officially debut at Auto Shanghai 2011 on April 19.

Audi has so far resisted the temptation to release any teaser images of the high-riding hatchback in the lead-up to its unveiling, although with 12 days remaining, there is still plenty of time for that to change.

Our spy images captured in December revealed the Q3 will share much with the A1 from a styling point of view, especially at the rear where its windscreen is raked like a coupe rather than vertical like most SUVs.

The Audi Q3 will be built at SEAT’s Martorell plant in Spain, with around 700 jobs created as a result of the new model.

The Q3 is based on Volkswagen Group’s PQ35 platform, which also underpins the similarly sized Volkswagen Tiguan.

Like most of the Audi range, the Q3 is expected to be available with the brand’s quattro all-wheel drive system, a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission, and a range of low-capacity fuel efficient turbocharged petrol and diesel engines.

The first vehicles are expected to roll off the Spanish production line later this year.

The Audi Q3 will sit below the popular Q5 and Q7 models in the range and will compete directly with the BMW X1, which has quickly established itself as one of BMW’s best selling vehicles in Australia.

CarAdvice will bring you the latest news about the 2012 Audi Q3 from the Shanghai show in just under two weeks’ time. Stay tuned.
