Skoda Fabia confirmed for Australian launch in July

The Skoda Fabia has been oficially confirmed for an Australian launch in July. Coinciding with the Australian International Motor Show in Melbourne, Skoda Australia will launch the Fabia alongside the Yeti to shift its brand focus from traditional buyers to a younger demographic.

Speaking to the automotive media at the launch of the Octavia Scout DSG, Matthew Wiesner, Head of Škoda Australia, said the new Fabia would initially be launched as a hatch only, with other variants including the hotted up Fabia RS and wagon to follow in either late-2011 or early-2012.

There will be two models of the Skoda Fabia hatch at its launch, a base model powered by the 77TSI engine currently in use in many Volkswagen models including the Polo, which the Fabia shares its platform and technology with, as well as the highly anticipated Skoda Fabia Monte Carlo edition.

All Fabia models will be offered as manual only from launch with DSG variants to follow later.

Pricing is still to be confirmed but we suspect it will start from around the same $16,690 starting point as the Volkswagen Polo.

We are certainly excited at the prospect of getting behind the wheel of a Skoda Fabia RS!
