Video: BMW M3 ute April Fools’ Day joke

It appears Ze Germans have a sense of humour after all. Remember the BMW M3 ute that was spotted on the Nurburgring last week? The company has done some explaining since then and says the car was simply created as 'Aprilscherz' - an April Fools' joke.

BMW thought if it produced a one-off M3 ute, wrapped it in some camouflaging and toured the Nurburgring, spy photographers would think it's going to be an upcoming production car. Well, it sort of worked. BMW's head of communications, Dirk Arnold, said in a recent report,

"Ah, yes, everyone's been talking about that pick-up. But, no, this is... how you call it, an April Fools' Joke."

He quickly confirmed that such a model would never enter the market.

"It is hugely doubtful that BMW will ever during our lives produce such a vehicle, in any segment."

A video of the M3 ute has since been posted up onto YouTube showing some more close-ups of the car, and by the sounds of it, there's definitely an M3 under that body. Take a look.
