Renault Samsung SM7 Concept Seoul show teaser

Renault has released a teaser image of a concept car it plans to unveil at the upcoming Seoul Motor Show. The concept design previews the next-generation large sedan sold in Asia, based on the Nissan Maxima platform.

Samsung is Renault's South Korean brand and currently sells the Samsung SM7 which is a large sedan using the Nissan J31 platform - a platform that is also used on the Nissan Teana (Asian Maxima) sedan. The current Samsung SM7 using the J31 chassis has been on sale now in Asian markets since 2004, so it's well due for an update.

No specific details of the car were released with the teaser image, it was simply distributed to showcase the company's upcoming design language. From the front the new SM7 takes on a very modern, sleek and low profile with a swooping roofline. There are even some hints of the Vauxhall Insignia design in the front grille layout.

Underneath, the SM7 is said to use a stretched SM5 platform which is used on the Renault Latitude. Renault says the concept will not enter international markets in the future as it wants to keep the Renault Latitude as its largest model in the showroom.

The Samsung SM7 Concept will be on display in full detail as a design study at the Seoul Motor Show, starting April 1.
