Video: Puppet named Doug promotes 2012 Ford Focus

Ford is hoping a flirty and ostentatious orange puppet named Doug will lead to a successful launch for the 2012 Ford Focus.

So far the Detroit-based manufacturer has uploaded three clips of its new star ‘spokespuppet’, with the new Focus hatch playing second fiddle to Doug’s attempts to hit on good-looking women.

The concept is certainly an unusual one, but each clip has just enough to keep you hanging in there. Ford hired Paul Feig to produce the spots, who has previously worked as a director on Arrested Development, The Office, 30 Rock and Weeds.

Have a look and decide for yourself. Even if Doug doesn’t do the best job of selling the 2012 Ford Focus, he’s certainly going to draw some attention to the vehicle and the brand among the YouTube generation, which makes up a significant proportion of the car’s target market.

The new 2012 Ford Focus will go on sale in Australia in the third quarter of 2011, with Australia's sedan and hatch variants to be built at the Saarlouis plant in Germany.
