2013 Porsche 918 Spyder on sale

Porsche has just announced that the 2013 Porsche 918 Spyder is now on the market. The new car, previewed at the 2010 Geneva Motor Show, won't be delivered until November 2013 but orders are now being taken.

Porsche's new hypercar was previously thought to be just a concept but soon after its initial unveiling the company announced it would be putting the dramatic drop-top on the market. It will be a limited edition model however, and very exclusive with a limited run of just 918 going into production. Prices will start at 645,000 euro.

The new hypercar is expected to present the same powerplant as the concept, with the combination of a 373kW V8 supported by two 80kW electric motors. All up, the Porsche 918 Spyder will output around 533kW of power. This means Porsche's acceleration claims could come true; 0-100km/h in 3.2 seconds and a top speed in excess of 320km/h.

The great thing about this exotic supercar is that it's a genuine plug-in hybrid, incorporating a liquid-cooled lithium-ion battery pack which Porsche says can be fully recharged using a 230 volt household socket in Germany in just three hours. The 918 is then able to travel on electric power alone for up to 25km. Porsche also says the 918 will offer a fuel consumption average of just 3.0L/100km and emit 70 grams of CO2 per kilometre.

Even though the price is at the extreme end of the exotic car market, these exclusive hypercars are expected to sell fast especially as it's the only hybrid supercar currently on sale. For more information and videos of the 918 Spyder, click this link.
