2014 Mercedes-Benz baby CLS coming

Mercedes-Benz will launch an all-new B-segment four-door coupe based on the upcoming MFA front-wheel drive platform, according to a recent report by AutoExpress in the UK.

Reports say inside sources have confirmed such a car is in the making and is expected to hit the market sometime in 2014. The car will be like a baby Mercedes-Benz CLS four-door coupe and will take much of its design characteristics from the Mercedes-Benz F800 Concept, first unveiled at the 2010 Geneva Motor Show.

Powering the new entry-level coupe is said to be a range of small four-cylinder engines, including 1.4- and 1.8-litre turbocharged petrol engines supplied by Renault. Other engines likely to feature in the range include a Mercedes-Benz 2.2-litre turbo-diesel unit and a 2.0-litre, 150kW petrol engine. A 1.6-litre Renault diesel is also rumoured to be in the mix.

The car will be strictly front-wheel drive. The MFA platform on which the car is based will be the basis for an upcoming new entry-level SUV, expected to arrive sometime after this new model. The baby CLS is also expected to feature hybrid technology, which could be available further down the track.

As mentioned, the Mercedes-Benz baby CLS, nicknamed the 'BLS', is slated to debut sometime in 2014.
