2011 Infiniti G series updated for Europe

The model year updates for the 2011 Infiniti G series have been announced for Europe, with a standard automatic transmission, revised styling, and new colours and wheels designs among the highlights.

Infiniti – the luxury performance division of Nissan (similar to Lexus for Toyota) – has been confirmed to launch in Australia in 2012, and last month Nissan Australia’s Jeff Fisher confirmed the brand was on track to arrive in the second half of the year.

While Nissan says it is still too early to talk about Infiniti’s Australian line-up, the G series would be an obvious starting point.

The range is a highly versatile one, with sedan, coupe and cabrio body styles on offer, as well as rear- and all-wheel drive. In terms of size, its dimensions are similar to an Audi A4, with a length of around 4700mm, width around 1800mm and height averaging about 1430mm across the different body types.

If it does go on sale in Australia, it will rival the A4 and fellow Germans – BMW 3 Series, Mecredes-Benz C-Class – as well as the Lexus IS range.

Every model in the G series range is powered by a 235kW/360Nm 3.7-litre V6 petrol engine and all models now feature a seven-speed automatic transmission with paddle-shifters.

Other additions include new alloy wheel designs for the Coupe and Cabrio models, a standard rear spoiler on the Coupe S and new paint options across the range.

There are four models of the G sedan range: G37, G37x GT, G37x GT Premium and G37 S Premium.

The GT models come with all-wheel drive and the S Premium comes with 4-Wheel Active Steer functionality. All G vehicles come with seating for four people.

The entry-level sedan features bi-Xenon adaptive cornering headlights, 18-inch alloys and accelerates from 0-100km/h in just 5.9 seconds.

The G37x GT adds leather trim, heated seats and ATTESA E-TS torque split system, and the Premium model steps up with Intelligent Cruise Control, HDD satellite navigation, 30GB music storage, 10-speaker Bose sound system, reversing camera and sunroof.

The top-spec S Premium gets a limited-slip differential, sports suspension and brakes and sports seats on top of the GT Premium kit.

The G Coupe range includes three models: G37 GT Coupe, G37 S Coupe and G37 S Premium Coupe.

The GT Coupe gets 18-inch alloy wheels, the S Coupe jumps up to 19-inch wheels, and adds four-wheel steering, LSD, and sports suspension and braking, and the S Premium adds the upgraded multimedia package and Intelligent Cruise Control.

The G37 GT Premium Cabrio is the only convertible model in the range, and comes with 19-inch alloys, a hard-folding roof that goes up or down in 25 seconds, climate controlled front seats, 13-speaker Bose system with headrest speakers, advanced multimedia system and Intelligent Cruise Control.
