The Artega SE is powered by two separate electric motors each producing 140kW of power, totalling 280kW. Each motor is mounted inside the rear final-drive assembly and is powered by a 37kWh lithium-ion polymer battery pack with 350 volts.
Artega says the SE is capable of completing the 0-100km/h sprint in just 4.3 seconds, 0.5 seconds faster than the company's Artega GT petrol-powered sports car. And unlike most electric cars, the Artega SE also comes with a sports car-esque top speed of more than 250km/h.
The Artega SE is based on the Artega GT and features an almost identical body shell and offers the same 57:43 weight distribution. Apart from the obvious savings in fuel, another aspect the SE has over the petrol GT is weight, or lack of it. The SE actually weighs 100kg less than the GT, tipping the scales at around 1400kg.
Range from a fully charged battery is 300km according to the New European Driving Cycle, although Artega says the range is more like 200km in 'normal' driving conditions. The battery pack can then be recharged in about 90 minutes through a high-powered socket.
Artega Automobil GmbH & Co. CEO, Peter Muller, spoke about the car and the company in a recent statement, saying, "Our aim is to combine environmental responsibility with the passion for automobiles."
We say, good on them. Electric cars could be the way of the future. With sports car manufacturers like Artega willing to develop electric versions, it means sports car enthusiasts won't be left out if and when an EV revolution takes place.
Artega is still calculating a possible production line for the SE version.
