Lamborghini Gallardo LP560-4

Lamborghini has taken the covers off its next evolution of hypercars, with the Reventon-inspired Gallardo LP560-4.

In addition to its revamped exterior, the mid-mounted 5.2-litre V10 engine has also received a significant update.

The new engine features FSI direct-injection technology handed down from Volkswagen, developing maximum power of 412kW at 8000rpm and 539Nm - an increase of 24kW and 31Nm over the previous 5.0-litre powerplant.

The significant changes made to the gearbox and permanent all-wheel drive system share technologies developed for the Audi R8 and upcoming RS4 models.

The sprint to 100km/h takes just 3.7 seconds from a standing start, and onto a top speed of over 325km/h. Covering the quarter mile in just 11.8 seconds.

Perhaps the most shocking number associated with the new Lamborghini LP560-4 is the fuel consumption - just 14-litres per 100km on the combined cycle.

As with the previous model, the LP560-4 will be offered as a manual or with the optional six-speed e-gear transmission, which have been revised to cooperate more efficiently with the increased power and torque and the light Viscous Traction system.

In "CORSA" mode, the time taken for the e-gear transmission to swap cogs has been reduced by 40 percent. With CORSA mode selected, the program directs the engine for optimum acceleration for precision dynamics on the race track.
