Hyundai has unveiled the new European-only Hyundai i40 at the 2011 Geneva Motor Show in Switzerland. The new car presents a wagon form of the Hyundai Sonata - similar to the Australian Hyundai i45.

As previously previewed, the new car features a 1.7-litre diesel unit (codenamed UII), which promises to offer great fuel economy and emit just 113 grams of CO2 per kilometre.

It will also be available with a new 'Nu' 2.0-litre engine that promises to offer improved fuel economy and lower emissions than the outgoing 2.0-litre petrol engine.

The car was engineered at Hyundai's engineering department in Russelsheim, Germany, and is said to be developed specifically for the European market. It is highly unlikely that the Hyundai i40 will make it to Australia. A shame really, as it looks rather solid and handsome for a wagon.

Hyundai says the i40 wagon will going on sale in Europe during the second-half of this year and will be joined by a sedan variant later down the track.
