2011 Bentley Continental Supersports Ice Speed Record Convertible special edition

Bentley has unveiled the limited edition 2011 Bentley Continental Supersports Ice Speed Record convertible ahead of its unveiling at the Geneva Motor Show tonight.

The Ice Speed Record (ISR) special edition is in celebration of the 330.695km/h speed record set by four-time Finnish world rally champion Juha Kankkunen in a Continental Supersports convertible two weeks ago on the frozen Baltic Sea.

Ironically, the ISR special edition is slower on land than the record-breaking vehicle was on ice, with a top speed of ‘only’ 325km/h.

The ISR convertible is powered by a twin-turbocharged 6.0-litre W12 engine that delivers 471kW of power and 800Nm of torque – making it the most powerful in history.

The combination of the Quickshift six-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive leads to a 0-100km/h acceleration sprint time of 4.0 seconds and 0-160km/h in 9.4 seconds.

Overtaking should be a breeze too, with an 80-120km/h sprint of just 2.5 seconds.

Bentley says the additional power is a result of fine-tuning the engine – optimising the benefits of the new air intake ducts, intercooler system and exhaust system.

The ISR has a more sports-focused design, incorporating dark-tinted 20-inch 10-spoke alloy wheels, a metallic-look grey acrillic fibre twill-weave soft-top, and three exterior paint options: Beluga black, Quartzite grey and Arctica White.

Inside, a combination of premium materials and surfaces includes leather, Alcantara, high-gloss carbon fibre and unique Pillar Box red stitching and piping.

The ISR convertible is far from a stripped-out racer in terms of features. An eight-inch touchscreen infotainment system controls the vehicle’s audio, telephone, smart satellite navigation, ride and comfort settings. Also integrated into the system is a 30GB hard drive and a DVD player.

Just 100 examples of the Supersports Ice Speed Record convertible will be built at the Bentley factory in Crewe, UK. Prices are yet to be revealed, although in Australia, the standard Continental Supersports coupe is available from $506,311.

The 2011 Bentley Continental Supersports Ice Speed Record convertible will take to the stand at Geneva tonight, joined by the actual record-breaking convertible driven by Kankkunen off the coast of Finland last month.
