Audi A3 sedan concept sketches revealed before Geneva

Audi has unveiled the first official sketches of the Audi A3 sedan concept set to be unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show next week.

Audi refers to the concept as a “four-seater notchback sedan [which] offers a glimpse of the future expansion of the A3 family”.

The German manufacturer has all but confirmed the next generation of the A3 will include a sedan variant, and admits the notchback concept revealed at Geneva will preview the styling of the upcoming vehicle.

At 4.44m long, 1.84m wide and 1.39m tall, the sedan concept is 15cm longer, 7cm wider and 3cm lower than the current second-generation five-door A3 hatchback.

The grille and LED headlight design draws inspiration from the all-new A6 sedan, while the thin, low-slung C-pillars give the concept a fast, four-door coupe appearance.

There’s also plenty to get excited about under the bonnet, with the A3 notchback sedan concept powered by a 300kW turbocharged five-cylinder engine, similar to the engine found in the TT RS.

The vehicle will wear quattro badging (representing its permanent all-wheel drive system) and features a seven-speed S tronic dual-clutch transmission.

It’s an exciting way to draw attention to an all-new vehicle that Audi hopes will become one of its best global sellers, and the full details will be revealed on March 1 on the first day of the Geneva Motor Show.
