2007-2009 Lexus IS250 recalled in Australia, Toyota Avensis not affected
Lexus Australia has recalled 4844 of its Lexus IS250 sedans as a part of a 1.7 million vehicle global recall of Lexus and Toyota vehicles.
Toyota Australia confirmed the affected Lexus vehicles were built between August 2007 and February 2009 and have been recalled because of a potential fuel leak.
“On these cars, the fuel pressure sensor is insufficiently tightened to the fuel delivery pipe and over time there is the possibility that the fuel pressure sensor may loosen, which could cause a small, slow fuel leak to occur,” Toyota Australia said in a statement.
Globally, more than 350,000 Lexus IS250s and around 1.35 million Toyota Avensis vehicles have been recalled. Toyota Avensis vehicles sold in Australia are not subject to the recall as they feature a different engine and are built in a different factory to the affected models.
There have been more than 100 reports of petrol leaks in Lexus IS250 and Toyota Avensis vehicles around the world. Toyota Australia confirmed one report of the condition was made in Australia.
Lexus Australia will contact affected customers by mail, advising them to make an appointment with their Lexus dealer.
During the recall, the fuel pressure sensor will be inspected for fuel leakage. If there is no leak, the fuel pressure sensor will be tightened to the specified torque. If there is a leak, the fuel pressure sensor gasket will be replaced. Toyota Australia confirmed the repair would be performed at no cost to owners and would take around two to three hours.
The recall of Avensis vehicles applies to those fitted with the D4 direct injection 2.0- and 2.4-litre petrol engines produced by Toyota Manufacturing United Kingdom.
The Avensis vehicles sold in Australia are sourced from Japan and are fitted with a standard, indirect fuel injection engine system.
