It's early days yet as it was only just unveiled at the Qatar Motor Show, which is currently underway. It's a complete working example though, and one that is modelled on the 2011 Volkswagen Touareg race car that competed in this year's Paris to Dakar rally.
It features everything you'd expect on car with the word 'Race' in its title, too. There's a proper off-road racing suspension system similar to the one found on the Dakar Race model - only on this it's toned down for potential street use. It also gets a highly modified body with a stance of more than two metres wide.
It's not quite as potent as the Dakar race edition, however, as the body was given a number of revisions to accommodate for road legality issues.
The Race Touareg comes with a 2.5-litre, five-cylinder turbo-diesel engine offering 228kW. This unit is capable of pulling the car from 0-100km/h in under 6.0 seconds.
Inside, it's completely kitted out, featuring race bucket seats and a race car-inspired instrument cluster and dashboard layout.
Volkswagen is currently thinking about putting the car into production, however, definite confirmation is yet to be sorted.
If the Volkswagen Race Touareg 3 Qatar does make it onto the market, it is likely to be available in limited numbers only.
