2011 Mazda2 range updated for Australia

Mazda Australia has announced subtle 2011 model year updates for the 2011 Mazda2 range. The updates apply to the entry-level Neo and mid-spec Maxx models.

The 2011 Mazda2 Neo benefits from new seat trim, Piano Black interior highlights, body coloured exterior door handles and new 15-inch steel wheel covers.

The 2011 Mazda2 Maxx also gets new seat material and black interior surfaces. Both vehicles will be available in two new colours: aquatic Blue and Burgundy Red.

Output from the 1.5-litre petrol engine is unchanged, offering 76kW of power and 137Nm of torque.

The top of the range Mazda2 Genki model will score a number of equipment enhancements when it is upgraded during the middle of this year.

Mazda Australia’s managing director, Doug Dickson, also confirmed production of Australian 2011 Mazda2 vehicles had returned to Hiroshima, Japan, as the Thailand plant aims to focus on production for South East Asia.

“With the increasing demand for Mazda2, securing supply was extremely important,” Mr Dickson said.

“Now that production of Australian-bound Mazda2s has moved back to Hiroshima we can be sure of fulfilling customer demand and maintaining momentum in the light car segment.”

The Mazda2 was the third-most popular light car in Australia in 2010, with 14,794 national sales and a 10.9 percent share of the market – trailing only the Hyundai Getz (21,547, 15.8 percent) and the Toyota Yaris (21,452, 15.8 percent).
