2011 Chevrolet Camaro SS Indy 500 Pace Car special edition

Chevrolet has announced a new special edition Chevrolet Camaro SS convertible to be the pace car for the upcoming Indianapolis 500. The limited edition model will also celebrate both the Indy 500 event and 100 years of Chevrolet.

Apart from the obvious exterior stickers and details, the car gets a 298kW 6.0-litre V8 engine. It also gets the 2SS equipment package which includes StabiliTrack stability control, Brembo four-piston brakes, Performance Launch Control and 20-inch alloy wheels.

It's been quite a few years since the first Chevrolet Camaro SS convertible toured the famous race as pace car (1967). The 2011 model will be inspired by the 1969 car, which means it will feature the exact same colour scheme as the original model. This means white exterior with prominent orange pinstripes over the entire middle of the car and a matching orange leather interior.

Just 50 examples of the Chevrolet Camaro SS Convertible Indy 500 Pace Car will be made, with the first edition - the official Festival Committee pace car - being sold at the Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale Classic Auto Auction taking place on January 22.
