FPV GT-F : Fundraising auction accelerates quickly

Ford Australia is auctioning off two FPV GT-F sedans to raise funds for the National Breast Cancer Foundation.

The auction, which launched last night, has already included bids of more than $100,000 each for car number 1 and car number 500 in the limited 550-unit production run.

FPV GT-F 001, finished in Kinetic Blue with a contrasting matte black stripe, has been the hero car for the promotion of the GT-F series. Meanwhile, car number 500, yet to be built, will be sold to the winning bidder who will be able to specify their own colour and stripe combination.

Speaking with CarAdvice this week, National Breast Cancer Foundation ambassador Jo Page said that the funds raised will help the foundation to continue to strive to reach its goal of a zero fatality rate from breast cancer by the year 2030. Ms Page said that involvement and fundraising from supporters like Ford have helped the Foundation continue research that has seen the fatility rate reduce from 30% 20 years ago to around 15% now.

To get Jo's opinion on the GT-F, the most powerful car ever produced by Ford Australia, we challenged her to a 0-100km/h acceleration test in the GT-F series development car (which despite looking like an FPV GT-P, was all GT-F underneath). With no official claimed time from Ford, we set a benchmark for the day of 4.6 seconds. After a few familiarisation laps, Jo lined up with all 351kW (or 404kW with overboost) and managed to beat her target of 5.0-seconds with a very respectable 4.8 sec launch.

Ford has been supporting breast cancer research globally for over 20 years, and has been directly involved with the National Breast Cancer Foundation for almost a decade.

The auction runs until Sunday 24th August at 8pm, so for a chance to not only own a piece of Australian motoring history but to help raise funds for a fantastic cause, visit the auction and get bidding!
