Ford FPV GT-F claims up to 410kW and 650Nm possible with overboost function

Despite claiming an official power output of 351 kilowatts, the Ford FPV GT-F will exceed 400kW in the right conditions.

Ford’s chief program engineer, Peter de Leur, said: “The figure of 351kW can be achieved by the GT-F under any conditions, even if the ambient temperature hits around 40 degrees Celsius.”

“Under the right conditions, with lower ambient temperatures, the car can exceed 400kW with the vehicle’s transient overboost function,” he said.

Prodrive, FPV’s partner on the GT-F project, helped develop the original supercharged 'Miami' V8 engine with outputs of 315kW and 335kW in the GS and GT, respectively.

Bernard Quinn, engineering director at Prodrive’s local arm Premcar, confirmed the recalibration of the engine management system allows the new GT-F hit highs of 410kW and 650Nm under ideal conditions.

To help get this extra power down off the line, the GT-F gets a twin pedal map that adjusts the throttle blade angle independently of the accelerator pedal position in first gear.

Calling for full power in first gear would overwhelm the wide 275/35 R19 rear tyres, so the software intervenes to release the power progressively. From second gear onwards, all the power and torque is on tap.

Unofficially, Ford says that the GT-F has recorded acceleration times of 4.5 seconds for the 0-100km/h sprint and mid-12 second runs for the quarter mile drag. Perhaps even more impressive is the 0-200km/h claim of low 14s – another unofficial claim.
