THE WEEK IN NEWS

First up, the end of Australian manufacturing for Toyota. The company announced that it will cease production of the Aurion in August, the Camry Hybrid in September and the final petrol Camry will roll off the assembly line on October 3.


Volkswagen may have had a tough year in terms of its reputation in 2016, but the Volkswagen Group - including brands such as Audi and Skoda - saw record sales: enough to see it top the global sales charts as the biggest-selling automotive manufacturer.


HSV is celebrating the last Australian-made models it will get its hands on with the new HSV GTSR W1 - a $170K super sedan with a supercharged V8 engine from a Corvette.


Could this be a prototype version of the first-ever Volvo pick-up? The brand has expertise in trucks and luxury, so a prestige ute isn't that big a stretch of the imagination...


Fuel that costs 10 cents per litre, a 300km/h top speed and a range of 1000km: the NanoFlowcell Quant 48Volt sounds like our kind of electric car.
