The Hyundai Getz is Australia's most popular light car. It marches off the showroom floor almost as fast as Hyundai can drive them off the ships, mostly into the hands of middle aged women. We looked around for a middlized woman to help us with this review but all we could find was Car Advice road tester Alborz Fowler.
Everyone thinks it's young chicks buying cars like Getz. But it's really a middle aged women thing. What is it with middle aged women and the Getz? Look, it's just one of the most cars you can buy for the money. I think for $13,990, which is what it starts at, it's quite truly...you get into it, you can drive it, you can take it to the shops.
It's got enough room put everything in the back. It drives okay. It handles okay. You know it's got enough power to get you from A to B and for middle-aged women that seems to be I think personally it doesn't really attract the younger buyers as much as it probably can and that's probably due to the fact that it's getting a little bit old now.
Walk us through what it's like inside. Look, you get into it and it's a pretty good, practical interior. I mean, it's got blue tooth but it's just a little too plasticy for me. I think it's starting to date a little on the interior. the steering was just a little bit too heavy, but in terms of driving I think it handles quite well.
I think for a lot of people Get into it, they can, sort of this, feel at home, straightaway, behind the wheel and just keep going. So if I put myself in the position of a middle aged woman, The things I care about are things like being able to park it easily and not feeling like I'm driving a big, heavy tank.
I want a zippy little car that I'm going to find easy to control. guess is that what I'm getting here. And the manual, the automatic, the 1.4, the 1.6, which way do I jump? Look, I've drive the 1.6 and I think that's the one you'd go for, it's a little bit more. And if you can drive a manual, it's certainly recommended.
But I think the target market probably would go for the automatic. It's not a bad automatic. It doesn't struggle to get up hills. The only thing [xx] if it's just one or two people in the car. But if you want to save a bit more money and get better fuel economy, the isn't too bad either but don't expect to be overtaking people on the highway very simply in it.
The five speed manual is quite easy to drive. I think the clutch is really light. And in terms of parking the steering is, as I've said before, just a little bit too heavy for me, I think. But because the car is so small, and it's got good rear visibility, sight and everything. You can get in and can quickly park it, so it's not that hard.
Is there a difference in accommodation in the second row of seats between the 3-door and the 5-door? Is it just the matter of different access?
I think this is matter of different access, I'm pretty sure they are about the same size, but the five door does make more sense because it's just a little bit more, but you get the practicality of being able to easily get into the back seat and put things These days, you can do pretty cool things with the audio.
Walk us through that.
Yeah, look, you can get in, if you've got an iPhone or an iPod, you can simply just sync it in via Bluetooth. So you get in the car, you turn it on, and without even touching your phone, it's still in your pocket, it'll start automatically streaming the audio onto the stereo. And the stereo's pretty good.
It's a six speaker stereo so you getdecent sound quality. And for 14,000 bucks, you can't really ask for anything more than that.
More cause through safety.
Look. It's got two airbags standard but there is a safety pack which you can tick and it's only a couple of hundred bucks and it's definitely worth it and you get the side airbags with it. In my opinion, it should come standard, but it doesn't. So take the box.
Thanks, Alborz. That was Alborz Fallah and, you know, you really should tick the box for the extra safety gear on the Getz. You can read the whole Getz review, download the specifications, add your comments, and even get a quote from a Hyundai dealer. Just follow the links on this page.
