Hidden in a back street, deep inside inner Sydney, is a dream garage full of Aston Martins. In the tradition of our full throttle videos, we thought we'd use Aston Martin's corporate jet services for a low level flight down to this snowy mountain in a couple of V8s. Our first mission was to break out of Sydney as fast as possible and onto Australia's own autobahns.
Aston Martin is headthe Vantage box set. That's the 4.7 liter coupe and the roadster. What we have here are two of the finest looking automobiles in the world. No need to tell you that you are looking at pure automotive eye candy here, times two. Why did we bring these two Astons here to Blowering Dam?
Well, because this is where Australian speed legend Ken Warby became the world's fastest man on water, when he piloted his boat, the Spirit of Australia, at an astonishing 511 kilometers an hour. The record has never been broken. We also have a couple of fast cars here. Not quite as quick as Ken Warby, but 290 kilometers an hour isn't exactly slow.
And we're about to see how they handle as we climb up And so on. The V8 Vantage is what we call a front mid-engine car, and it just has such a beautiful engine. The 4.7 litre is light, it's all alloy, and you know what? It's all hand-assembled in Cologne, Germany. Since Anthony is losing all his hair, he has picked a coupe, and I'm getting in the Roadster.
the 275s on the rear give this car tons of grip, but the up-rated 4.7 liter V8 has more than enough grunt to brake traction. The upgraded Aston now puts out 313 kilowatts and 470 newton metres of torque. Now, boys, it's got the tricky sport shift gearbox in the roadster. The coupe that we're driving has a proper six speed manual gearbox, and let me tell you, it's a masterpiece.
So easy to shift through six forward ratios. You know, some people think the Vantage isn't as hardcore as the DBS, but you've just got to look at the gearbox to understand that it really is. They could've just gone with a set of six speed, but they chose an automated manual because it's just more hardcore, it's more fun.
Look at this. Yeah. Inside is just as elegant. There's hand stitched leather everywhere in this car. In fact, the cockpit is decisively similar to that of the more expensive DBS. Don't get me wrong, I do love the DBS, but the Vantage is just, you know, it's a little bit smaller. It's more fun to play with.
You can check it out and just have some fun with it. And for that reason it really is my favorite Aston Martin. One of the great things about being in a Vantage is the driving position. You're sitting deep in the car very similar to a 911 Porsche, but you kind of get sick of that V8 sound. The 700 watt Alpine system is just phenomenal.
the base, the clarity, everything about it. It's probably one of the best stereo systems in any car today. Every time you step into an Aston Aston Martin, it's like you just sat down in a Louis Vuitton store. Such is that smell of leather and that bespoke switchgear. Now Bulls has already ragged on about the 700 watt output stereo system in the Vantage, but let Let me tell you for just twenty-six fifty, it's a must have option.
The three five five mil brakes up front and the 330s down the rear of the car. While not that massive, provide an extraordinary stopping power. And even after several high speed runs up and down the mountain, there's absolutely no to speak of. I thought I'd ask Tony what he thought of the new 4.7 litre engine.
is a good idea. So, Anthony, does four point seven liters do it for you? Oh I think it does. It is a bit big improvement on the 4.3 litre. There's just enough grunt and more torque in almost every gear ratio to say that...I mean, everyone complained world over, the 4.3 just didn't have enough power for the look of the car.
Well, I think Astin Martin have answered that question now. You could always do with more power, always shift a full throttle this thing comes in to its own. And you can hit comfort mode in traffic and even crawl mode, so that you're not having to really feather the throttle that much.
Well I tell you what, before tank side explodes, let's get out of here! It's worth mentioning the steering response is just near perfect, and that allows for some great driving some very tight corners here up in the mountains. There's a good reason for that, too. The steering rack is mounted ahead of the front wheels, which is common on race cars but rarely ever seen on road cars.
As we began our drive up the mountain, the rain set in. Despite being rear-wheel drive, the Vantage has an enormous amount of grip even in these wet conditions. You can still have a bit of fun even with the DSC on, but it does cut in just at the right time.
Yeah, the more I drive this roadster the more I love it.
I really didn't want to get into it at all after eight hours driving down in the coupe but now that I have spent about 5 hours through twisty bits near Mt. [xx] probably wouldn't want to give it back at all.
Most roadsters or convertibles suffer from a lack of torsional rigidity, but not the Vantage. That's because this car was designed as a roadster from the ground up and that's just another reason why we think the Vantage Its the in proportion road stuff on the planet. i just try the Lamborghini much larger in Sydney and i got a large on this whole different story.
Muscular stairs, wide rear end, just beautifully poised. This has got to be one of the best looking King owner motor chefs of all time.
